Turns out the symptoms proceeding Brigham Young's death are more consistent with arsenic poisoning then with appendicitis, which is the official explanation thereof. Samuel W. Taylor who reads most of this was around 90 at the time so he goes kind of slow. Taylor is an interesting man, a grandson of church president John Taylor, and the son of excommunicated apostle John W. Taylor (John W. was exed because he continued to enter into polygamist marriages long after the manifesto was issued). Samuel W. Taylor (a mostly inactive Mormon) was a writer who mainly did history but also some fiction, he is the man who invented "flubber" in a couple of short stories which served as the basis for Disney's "Nutty Professor" series.
